Salukis Welcome Transfer Carmen Morales Romero
CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois University’s women’s basketball team has announced an exciting addition to their roster with the signing of center Carmen Morales Romero, previously a player at Benedictine College. At 6-foot-3, Romero brings impressive size and skill to the court.
Background and Experience
Hailing from Granada, Spain, Romero joins the Salukis after a year at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. During her time there, she adapted to the competitive environment of collegiate basketball in the United States, preparing her for the challenges ahead at Southern Illinois.
Coaching Staff Enthusiasm
Head coach Kelly Bond-White expressed her enthusiasm for the new signing, stating, “We’re excited to have Carmen on campus for the upcoming season. She adds valuable depth to our front court, bringing strength in the lane, a steady defensive presence, and strong rebounding that can spark our offense.” Bond-White further praised Romero’s skills, noting her capability to score inside, hit high-post jumpers, and occasionally knock down three-pointers, which will keep opposing defenses on their toes.
Romero’s Perspective
Romero shared her own excitement about joining the program, citing the coaching staff’s vision and their commitment to turning the program around as significant factors in her decision. She noted, “Everyone in the process made it feel like home,” reflecting the welcoming atmosphere fostered by her future teammates.
Academic Pursuits
In addition to her athletic endeavors, Romero will be pursuing architectural studies at Southern Illinois, balancing her academic and athletic commitments effectively.
