WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University women’s basketball team triumphed over Virginia University of Lynchburg with a score of 71-44 at the C.E. Gaines Center.
The Rams improved their season record to 5-13, with a conference record of 1-7 in the CIAA and 1-2 in South play.
Christana McLean and Karina Scott led the scoring for the Rams, each contributing 13 points, while Jakaiya Mack added 10 points.
Performance Highlights
In this match, the Rams showcased their strong gameplay, shooting 30-of-77 from the field, 4-of-18 from beyond the arc, and converting 17-of-21 free throws. They collected 35 rebounds, scored 34 points in the paint, and scored 32 points off turnovers. Defensively, the Rams forced 30 turnovers, recorded 19 steals, and contributed an impressive 50 points from the bench.
Quarter Breakdown
The game commenced with a lay-up from Jakaiya Mack, giving the Rams an early 8-5 lead in the first quarter. However, the Dragons responded with an 8-2 rally, ending the quarter up 13-12.
In the second quarter, the Rams ignited a 6-0 run, reclaiming the lead at 18-13, led by another lay-up from Mack. They expanded their lead to 28-17, with Scott adding to the score before concluding the half at 31-21.
During the third quarter, free throws from Christina McLean extended the Rams’ lead to 42-26. They maintained a solid 48-32 lead heading into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter saw the Rams outshine the Dragons, launching a 7-0 run that brought their score to 55-32, courtesy of two more free throws from McLean. They ultimately closed the game with a dominant 71-44 score.

The Lady Rams will head to Charlotte, North Carolina, on Thursday, January 30, to face Johnson C. Smith University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at Brayboy Gymnasium.
