NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Fordham University’s women’s basketball team showcased their scoring prowess early in the game, leading to a decisive 71-54 victory against Yale on the road. The Rams set the tone by converting on their first two possessions and continued to dominate throughout the matchup.
With this win, the Maroon and White have seized their third consecutive victory, marking their second straight success away from home, and improving their season record to 5-3. Meanwhile, Yale struggles continue as they fall to 1-9.
Three Rams reached double digits in scoring, led by the remarkable performance of Tata Davis, who posted 23 points on an impressive 9-of-10 shooting, while also contributing three steals. Teammate Taylor Donaldson provided significant support with 16 points, five rebounds, and a team-high five assists. Irene Murua also made her mark, scoring 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting and grabbing five rebounds.
Emma Wilson-Saltos dominated on the boards, leading the team with six rebounds, while Karissa Antoine added three steals along with four rebounds. Notably, the Yale Bulldogs were held to 54 points, marking the sixth time this season that Fordham’s defense has restricted an opponent to fewer than 60 points.
The Rams started strong, quickly scoring and establishing an early 10-4 lead within the first few minutes. Yale managed to level the score at 12, but Davis quickly responded, scoring six points in the final minute of the first quarter to give the Rams an 18-15 advantage.
Demonstrating a strong defensive effort, the Rams kept the Bulldogs scoreless for over eight minutes in the second quarter. This resulted in a 13-0 run that extended their lead to 32-17 at halftime, as Fordham won the quarter decisively 14-2.
By the end of the first half, Davis and Donaldson each had 11 points, accounting for a significant portion of the team’s scoring, while the Fordham defense forced 12 turnovers from Yale in just the first 20 minutes.
In the third quarter, the Rams continued to assert their dominance, jumping to their largest lead of the game at 43-21. Though Yale fought back to close the gap to 15 points, Fordham maintained control, ending the quarter at 51-xx.
The final quarter saw Yale rally for 25 points, yet Fordham matched their effort with 20 points of their own, securing a comfortable 71-54 win.
Looking ahead, Fordham will aim for a fourth consecutive victory as they prepare to host LIU in the Rose Hill Gym on Sunday, December 8 at 2:30 PM.
