Recent Performance: UNCG Spartans

The Spartans are entering this match after experiencing setbacks in their initial games of the season. They faced Stanford and San Francisco, losing both contests with scores of 87-42 and 64-40, respectively. Individual highlights from these games include:

  • Against Stanford, Jeni Levine emerged as a standout performer, scoring 18 points, while freshman Leyla Minor contributed 11 points.
  • In the game against San Francisco, Makiah Asidanya led the team with a season-high 19 points, with Levine adding 10 points to support the scoring efforts.

About the Spartans’ Season

The UNCG Spartans are coming off a remarkable 2024-25 season where they secured a position in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998, highlighted by their victory over Chattanooga in the Southern Conference (SoCon) Championship. Although they faced a tough opponent in the first round against No. 1 USC, the Spartans are looking to build on their success this year.

Head Coach Trina Patterson, who was named the SoCon Coach of the Year, is entering her 10th season and has a roster consisting of five returning players and eight newcomers. The team is currently leading the SoCon with an impressive 78.9% free throw percentage.

Player Highlights

Jeni Levine currently ranks second in the conference with a total of 28 points over the first two games. Furthermore, Asidanya continues to shine as a shooter, standing second in the SoCon for total three-pointers made. Both Asidanya and Jaila Lee have been recognized on the SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team, further solidifying the talent on the Spartans’ roster.

A Closer Look: Auburn Tigers

Auburn enters this contest with a favorable 2-0 record. Their season kicked off with an overtime victory against Charlotte, followed by a dominant 82-41 win over Alabama State at home. The Tigers are performing exceptionally well at the free-throw line, leading the SEC with an 80.6% success rate.

Key Players

Several Auburn players have been making a mark early in the season:

  • Khady Leye stands out with an average of 3.00 blocks per game, ranking her second in the SEC and 24th nationally.
  • Kaitlyn Duhon is yet to miss a free throw this season, boasting a perfect record and leading the conference.
  • Harissoum Coulibaly has made headlines with an average of 5.00 steals per game, ranking 21st nationally.

Head Coach Larry Vickers is in his inaugural season with the Tigers, and the roster is comprised of just two returners, with the remainder being new additions, including 10 newcomers.

Next Steps for UNCG

Following the matchup against Auburn, the Spartans will face Presbyterian, an opponent from the Big South Conference, on Friday, November 14, at 6:00 PM in Clinton, South Carolina.
