In a challenging matchup, the women’s basketball team faced a tough opponent, falling 78–39 to the United States Merchant Marine Academy during a non-conference game held on Wednesday night in Kings Point, Long Island.
The Mariners established an early lead, demonstrating efficiency with a 48 percent shooting rate in the first quarter. Their dominance on the boards was evident as they out-rebounded the Bearcats 58 to 41, securing a decisive home victory.
Lola Idir, a native of Long Island, was the standout performer for the Bearcats, scoring 16 points with a strong showing from beyond the arc, hitting 4 of her 8 attempts from three-point range. Additionally, Precious Mitchell contributed significantly off the bench, grabbing eight rebounds.
On the Mariners’ side, Emily Grasseler led her team with an impressive performance, scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds—paving the way for a solid team effort that included four players finishing in double figures.
Looking ahead, the Bearcats will be back in action on Friday as they head to Philadelphia to participate in the Scarlet Raptors Classic, hosted by Rutgers-Camden. Baruch will face the Scarlet Raptors at 8:00 p.m.
