MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women’s basketball team improved their season record to 4-1 after a significant 76-52 victory against San Jose State, marking the best start for the Waves in seven years.

Head Coach Katie Faulkner praised her team, stating, “I love the team we are choosing to become. Unselfish basketball was on display tonight and that is the heart of our culture and who we want to be.”

Game Highlights

  • The Waves maintained control of the game, leading for all but 18 seconds.
  • Pepperdine had an impressive 10-point scoring run toward the end of the first quarter, concluding the quarter with a 21-12 lead.
  • In the second quarter, the Waves shot 50% from beyond the arc, with notable contributions from Seleh Harmon, Bella Green, and Elli Guiney.
  • Overall, Pepperdine outscored the Spartans 17-16 in the second quarter, reinforcing their lead heading into halftime.

Second Half Performance

In the second half, the Waves demonstrated impressive offensive ability with a .417 shooting percentage from the field and .375 from three-point range, while their defense limited San Jose State to just 24 points.

Elli Guiney was a standout player, scoring 10 points in the latter two quarters, supported by Harmon and Preston with eight points each. This victory represents the largest margin for the Waves since last season’s game against CSUN, which ended 84-58.

Pepperdine will venture to Los Angeles for their next match against the No. 11 USC Trojans. This highly anticipated game is scheduled for November 28 at 2:00 p.m. PT and will be available for streaming on ESPN+ (subscription required). Live statistics will also be provided on pepperdinewaves.com.

  • Pepperdine averaged 74.0 points per game with this victory.
  • For the first time this season, the Waves matched their opponent’s turnover count at 15.

The Pepperdine women’s basketball program has made four NCAA postseason appearances, secured the West Coast Conference (WCC) regular-season title four times, and won the WCC Tournament on three occasions. The team also reached the Sweet Sixteen in the WNIT Tournament in 2019.
