FINAL SCORE: Vermont 137, Dean 31

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Vermont Catamounts showcased remarkable skill and teamwork during their matchup against Dean College, securing a commanding victory with a score of 137-31 on Tuesday evening at Patrick Gym. This impressive win included the breaking of multiple team records, with every player participating in the game.

Coach’s Perspective

“For us, this game was about the little details, the little challenges that we kept including throughout the game,” said Alisa Kresge, the Mayer Women’s Head Coach. “I thought for the most part we were disciplined on both sides of the ball, which was really important. There were a couple of times that we were casual, and they took advantage of that. Overall, I still think this was a great opportunity for us to learn.”

Game Overview

The Catamounts established dominance early, as Senior Jadyn Weltz scored just 20 seconds into the game with a three-pointer, laying the foundation for Vermont’s lead. Their strong defensive tactics produced four turnovers, allowing Vermont to propel ahead 14-0 by the first media timeout.

The first quarter saw sophomore Savanna Creal achieving her first layup, extending the Catamounts’ lead to 25-6. Senior Nikola Priede made her presence felt, scoring her seventh layup early in the second quarter, pushing the score to 45-6. First-year Lia Hanson then added her name to the score sheet, netting a layup assisted by her sister, Kiera Hanson, shortly before the half.

By halftime, the Catamounts held a commanding 65-13 lead.

Second Half Highlights

Priede continued her scoring spree in the third quarter, reaching her 20th point with a layup at 6:53. Kiera Hanson then drained her second three-pointer with just seconds left in the quarter, increasing the score to 107-20. Last-minute contributions from sophomores Piper Risdon and Christiana Gordon, along with first-year Maren Maxon, rounded out the scoring in the fourth quarter.

Statistical Milestones

Vermont achieved a program milestone by scoring a record high of 137 points in a single game, surpassing their previous best. Also noteworthy, the team scored an impressive 42 points in the third quarter alone, marking the most points recorded in a single quarter by the program. Key performances included:

  • Priede leading with 20 points on 83.3% shooting.
  • Weltz and Catherine Gilwee providing team-high assists with six each.
  • Malia Lenz and Creal leading in rebounds with seven each.

Looking Ahead

The Catamounts are set to face Saint Anselm on Saturday, November 8, in their second regular season game. The matchup will commence at 12 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Fans can also tune in to the radio broadcast via the Varsity Network App featuring Ryan Zimmerman as the commentator. Vermont Federal Credit Union serves as the presenting sponsor for this season of Vermont women’s basketball.
