Women in Sports Betting: Untapped Potential
By
The Current Landscape
Despite women making up over half of the U.S. population, their representation in sports betting remains limited. Laura Fernandez, Vice President of Travel and iGaming/Sports Betting at Sirius XM, highlighted this discrepancy during a panel discussion at the recent SBC Summit Americas.
Industry Conference Attendance
During the session titled “The Future is Female: Elevating Women’s Sports Through Betting,” the turnout signaled a concerning trend, with less than half of the seats filled. This turnout underscores a worrying lack of engagement on female-oriented sports betting campaigns.
Opportunities for Growth
Fernandez emphasized that while there are some efforts in targeting female bettors—like campaigns featuring celebrities such as Vanessa Hudgens for BetMGM and Halle Berry for Caesars Sportsbook—these initiatives are far from widespread. “It’s a huge opportunity, but we’re not seeing a whole lot of campaigns targeting female sports betting,” she stated.
Conclusion
The sports betting industry stands at a pivotal juncture. To truly harness its potential, a concerted effort is needed to engage female audiences through targeted marketing and outreach strategies. Addressing this gap could open new avenues for growth in a rapidly evolving market.
