Sentencing of Three Individuals for Money Laundering
The Defendants
Jade Heeney (27), Annie Julia Smith (28), and Marlena Aleksandrowicz (29) were convicted of money laundering charges linked to their Revolut accounts. Heeney resided in Castlemanor, Drogheda, Smith in Candy Lodge, Gormanston, and Aleksandrowicz in Bridgefield Northwood, Dublin 9.
Connection to Organized Crime
The court identified the trio as operating at the lower levels of the Boylan Organized Crime Group. They received no financial gain from their actions and had no prior criminal records.
Keith Boylan and his brother Josh were named as the leaders of this criminal organization. Heeney and Smith were previously in relationships with the Boylan brothers, while Aleksandrowicz was friends with Keith Boylan’s girlfriend.
Judicial Remarks
Judge Dara Hayes stated that the defendants were acknowledged by gardaí to be at the lower end of the money laundering spectrum. Nevertheless, their actions provided crucial support in laundering proceeds for the gang.
The judge emphasized that the defendants were not naive; they understood the nature of their involvement. Judge Hayes noted the influence of fear regarding their association with the criminals, stating they “got in over their heads.”
Financial Transactions
Evidence presented in court detailed the financial transactions outgoing from their accounts:
- Aleksandrowicz’s account received €16,348 from OCG affiliates between July 10, 2020, and February 27, 2021, with €14,950 withdrawn.
- Heeney’s account saw €13,033 transferred from OCG members from December 20, 2020, to January 31, 2021, and €12,551.37 was withdrawn.
- Smith’s account received €8,967.50 from associates between June 17, 2020, and June 3, 2021, with €5,080 withdrawn.
Conclusion
In assessing the individual circumstances of the defendants, Judge Hayes mentioned that, while each was involved in serious criminality, their actions appeared to be an aberration rather than reflective of their character. The court heard that they were people of good standing, noted by those who knew them.
