Empowering Women Entrepreneurs
The Women Global Investment Summit has officially commenced, showcasing the efforts to empower women entrepreneurs in Libya. Over 60 participants, including entrepreneurs and economic experts from 15 different countries, have gathered to share insights and foster collaboration.
Government Support for Women’s Economic Roles
Libya’s Minister of State for Women’s Affairs, Houria Al-Tarmal, emphasized the commitment of the Government of National Unity, the internationally recognized western-based administration, to support women both economically and logistically. She noted, “Women are essential partners in the national economy,” expressing hope that the summit will enable Libyan businesswomen to navigate challenges by learning from experienced women entrepreneurs globally.
Summit Highlights
This two-day summit includes a series of workshops and training sessions aimed at economically empowering women and enhancing their roles in Libya’s national economy. The event will also witness the signing of cooperation agreements between local and international organizations to bolster Libya’s developmental goals.
Context of Fragmentation
Since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011, Libya has faced ongoing fragmentation, currently divided between two principal rival administrations: one based in the east, supported by the House of Representatives, and the other in Tripoli. Despite these challenges, the Women Global Investment Summit marks a pivotal step towards fostering unity and progress through the empowerment of women in the economy.
