About the WISE-SCOPE Fellowship
The WISE-SCOPE Fellowship, aimed at addressing significant societal challenges, emphasizes projects that target the grassroots level. It seeks to provide scientific and technological interventions to solve issues spanning several domains, including economics, environment, healthcare, agriculture, energy, waste, and water management.
Projects that fall under the WISE-SCOPE initiative should aim to deliver tangible solutions through science and technology, directly impacting livelihoods, addressing health and nutrition, managing natural resources, and promoting sustainable agriculture and climate resilience.
Project Themes
Proposals should focus on the development of viable technologies and techniques capable of being adapted and scaled for broad societal benefit. The thematic areas for projects include:
- Energy, Water, and Waste Management (EWWM)
- Engineering and Technology Development (ETD)
- Environment, Climate, and Sustainable Development (ECSD)
- Agriculture and Allied Sciences (AAS)
- Health, Food, and Nutrition (HFN)
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible candidates for the WISE-SCOPE Fellowship must meet the following criteria:
- Employment: Women scientists in regular employment are not eligible. However, those in temporary roles in research or academia can apply but must resign if selected.
- Age: Applicants must be between 27 and 60 years old at the time of submission.
- Educational Qualification: Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in Basic or Applied Sciences or possess an equivalent degree (e.g., MD/MS/MDS).
Financial Support
The fellowship offers a monthly stipend of ₹55,000 along with House Rent Allowance (HRA) as per norms. Additional financial support includes:
- Research Grant: ₹2.0 Lakh per year
- Field Demonstration Grant: ₹1.0 Lakh (for project duration)
- Support for small equipment: Up to ₹2.0 Lakh and institutional overheads as per DST guidelines.
Project Duration
The fellowship can extend up to three years.
Selection Procedure
Selection will be based on preliminary eligibility screening, the applicant’s credentials, the identified societal challenge, the proposed scientific methodology, and the expected outcome. Final selections will be made based on recommendations from Subject Expert Committees (SECs), with the DST making the final decision after administrative and financial review.
