Wilmington College is excited to announce Danie Shafer as the new Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach for the upcoming 2025-26 season. With a diverse athletic and coaching background, Shafer is set to play a pivotal role in enhancing the Quakers’ program through her expertise in recruitment and player development.

She brings an extensive playing career and coaching background that will help elevate our program,” stated Shauna Watson, Head Women’s Basketball Coach. “I believe she will make an immediate impact in recruiting and player development, and we are excited to get the year started!”
Background and Education
Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Shafer is an alumnus of Urbana University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Sport Business in 2018. During her college career, she distinguished herself as a member of the Women’s Basketball team, receiving accolades such as 1st Team All-Conference, Female Athlete of the Year, and being named a Preseason All-American. Shafer holds several program records, including for 30+ point games, the number of 3-pointers made, and 3-point shooting percentage.
Professional Experience
Following her collegiate career, Shafer took her talents overseas, competing professionally in various countries including Iceland, the Netherlands, Germany, England, and Serbia. Throughout her international career, she played primarily as a point guard and shooting guard while also contributing to coaching U18 women’s basketball programs.
Most recently, she served as the Director of Basketball Operations and Assistant Basketball Coach at Alderson Broaddus University in West Virginia. In this capacity, Shafer managed logistical operations such as travel arrangements, budget oversight, and practice and game scheduling, while ensuring adherence to NCAA regulations. Her duties also included overseeing player evaluations, recruiting events, and maintaining comprehensive recruiting records.
Marketing and Administrative Roles
Shafer’s expertise is not limited to basketball; she has also made significant contributions in marketing. After obtaining her Master’s degree in Marketing from the University of Nottingham in 2019, she held the post of Director of Marketing and Business Development at ICN Media in the UK. There, she focused on enhancing brand visibility and executing digital marketing strategies.
While at Urbana University, Shafer worked as a Sport Marketing Assistant, where she coordinated social media updates and aided in the development of marketing campaigns. She also gained experience working for the Dayton Dragons as a Customer Service Representative, further broadening her skill set in sports management.
