PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The Arizona women’s basketball team faced a challenging matchup against Vanderbilt, falling 71-60 in a spirited contest at Acrisure Arena on Tuesday afternoon. Despite the setback, the Wildcats showcased impressive performances from stars Jada Williams and Breya Cunningham.
Williams had a standout game, achieving a season-high of 20 points and a career-best six steals while playing nearly 39 minutes on the court. The sophomore guard also contributed five rebounds and made three successful three-point shots. Similarly, Cunningham marked her season high with 17 points and secured nine rebounds, four of which were offensive.
At halftime, Arizona (6-2) was trailing by a score of 31-18. However, the team fought back in the second half by outscoring the Commodores 23-21 in the fourth quarter, although they could not completely overcome the early deficit.
For Vanderbilt (7-0), Khamil Pierre led the charge with a double-double, scoring 25 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Mikayla Blakes also made her mark on the game, contributing 23 points.
Looking ahead, Arizona aims to rebound quickly as they prepare to take on former Pac-12 rival, the University of California, tomorrow at 12 p.m. MST in Palm Springs.
