Northern Michigan University Women’s Soccer Faces Setback Against Northwood

MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University (NMU) women’s soccer team is still seeking its first victory of the season after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Northwood University. This match took place at the NMU Soccer Field on Thursday, marking a downturn following two earlier ties.

Currently holding a record of 0-1-2, the Wildcats are set to continue their four-game homestand with a match against Cedarville University today at noon. Cedarville is ranked No. 6 in the Midwest region, a critical positioning as the NCAA Division II tournament approaches.
Northwood, now standing at 2-0, secured the only goal of the game in the second half, precisely 12 minutes into the period, when Mari Jackson capitalized on a turnover in the Wildcat zone, executing a well-coordinated passing play.

Later, midfielder Gretchen Ellis’ pass set up forward Christina Roberts for a shot that was intercepted by Northwood’s goalkeeper, Lindsay Jacob, thwarting another potential equalizer. Additionally, a well-placed cross from NMU’s Madison Bilbia went unreached as it passed through the box untouched.
