Whitecap Sports Group Establishes Dedicated Division for Women’s Sports
Introduction of Women’s Sports Unit
Tampa’s very own Whitecap Sports Group (WSG) has unveiled a new business unit aimed at supporting women’s sports. This strategic move underlines the firm’s commitment to elevating women’s sports to an equal level of priority as men’s leagues.
Leadership and Expertise
The new division will be spearheaded by Chelsee Washington, who brings a wealth of knowledge from her background as a former player in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and as a recent associate at WSG. Since joining the firm in 2023, Washington has played a pivotal role in advising on ownership transactions across several leagues including the NWSL, the WNBA, and the USL Super League, as well as Canada’s Northern Super League.
Notable Transactions and Goals
WSG has recently made headlines by facilitating NFL linebacker Bobby Wagner’s investment in the WNBA’s Seattle Storm, showcasing its growing influence in the realm of women’s sports. Washington emphasized that the establishment of this new division is aimed at ensuring that the organization’s efforts in women’s sports M&A transactions receive the same level of attention as those in men’s leagues.
A Broader Vision for Women’s Sports
In addition to focusing on mergers and acquisitions for women’s teams, this division is set to provide advisory services tailored for emerging leagues in women’s sports. The initiative promises to make a significant impact by supporting the growth and sustainability of these burgeoning competitions.
