Westminster College Women’s Swimming Kicks Off 2025-26 Season
On Friday evening, the Westminster College women’s swimming and diving team commenced its 2025-26 season with a challenging match against Edinboro, culminating in a 173-83 defeat.
Relay Team Shines in Season Opener
The Titans set the tone for the evening by securing a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay, clocking in at 2:03.68. This relay team comprised of freshmen Olivia Schrock from Greensburg, PA, Brianna Reinhart from Pittsburgh, PA, Nina Nappo from Columbiana, OH, and Rachel Rospierski from Erie, PA, demonstrated potential for the upcoming season.
Individual Performances
Junior Maddy McClain from Elizabeth, PA showcased her talent with notable finishes: second place in the 500-yard freestyle (5:37.82) and 200 individual medley (2:25.17), along with a third-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:29.39).
Rospierski also excelled, earning second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.37), third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:27.56), and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (27.40). Schrock followed suit with strong performances, placing second in the 200 backstroke (2:23.96) and third in both the 100 backstroke (1:10.08) and 100 butterfly (1:13.80).
Freshmen Making Their Mark
Newcomers to the program also left their mark, with Sarah Vitale from Allison Park, PA finishing second in the 200 breaststroke (3:04.67), while Annabelle Turner from Butler, PA secured second place in the 100 butterfly (1:11.28). Nappo clinched third place in the 200 butterfly (2:35.92) and the 500 freestyle (6:01.07), demonstrating a promising start as a freshman.
Reinhart showcased her speed as well, achieving third-place in the 100 freestyle (59.70) and fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.30). Additionally, freshman Sophia Greene from Cabot, PA placed third in both the 200 breaststroke (3:10.87) and 200 individual medley (2:44.41).
Closing Relay
The Titans concluded the meet with another commendable effort, securing second place in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 2:00.05. The relay team included freshman Madison Alessio from Charleroi, PA, sophomore Daphne Gindlesperger from McKean, PA, Reinhart, and McClain.
Looking Ahead
Next Saturday, Westminster College will shift focus as they begin their Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) schedule against Washington & Jefferson. The meet will take place at the Henry Memorial Natatorium, starting at 1 p.m.
