Westminster College Volleyball Excels at Bearcat Invitational
LATROBE, Pa. – The Westminster College women’s volleyball team concluded their performance at the Bearcat Invitational hosted by Saint Vincent College with notable victories. The Titans achieved a five-set triumph over RIT followed by a decisive three-set win against Carlow, bringing their season record to 3-1.
Match Summaries
Westminster vs. RIT
In a thrilling matchup against RIT, Westminster emerged victorious with set scores of 25-18, 17-25, 31-29, 23-25, and 15-9. Senior outside hitter Rachel LaSalvia (Columbus, Pa., Corry) was instrumental in this victory, achieving a career-high of 17 kills alongside 16 digs for a double-double performance. In the critical fifth set, LaSalvia contributed three crucial kills that helped seal the win.
Freshman outside hitter Kylie Anthony (Harrison City, Pa., Penn-Trafford) also recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 22 digs. Additionally, senior middle hitter Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) added 10 kills and five digs to the team’s efforts.
Both senior setter Angie Nardone (Ellwood City, Pa., Lincoln) and junior setter Anna-Kate Davis (Boonsboro, Md., Boonsboro) each tallied 21 assists. Nardone also contributed 10 digs while Davis added five. Freshman libero Halle Albers (Corry, Pa., Corry) notched 16 digs to support the defense.
For RIT, Sofia Leon posted a strong performance with 16 kills and 23 digs.
Westminster vs. Carlow
The Titans continued their winning streak by defeating Carlow in straight sets, with scores of 25-19, 25-20, and 25-15. Kylie Anthony maintained her strong performance with a hitting percentage of .320, scoring 10 kills on 25 attempts. Senior middle hitter Jamie Robertson (Los Angeles, Calif., Palisades Charter) contributed eight kills and three blocks.
In support of the offense, Nardone provided 20 assists, eight digs, and three service aces, while Davis offered 11 assists and three digs. Defensively, junior outside hitter Zoie Reid (Salem, Ohio, Salem) recorded 13 digs, and junior libero Meredith Hart (New Waterford, Ohio, Crestview) added 11 digs.
Westminster showcased a solid offensive performance with a combined hitting percentage of .282 throughout the match.
Carlow’s Rebecca Hess was a standout for her team, ending the match with 12 kills and 20 digs.
Acknowledgments and Upcoming Matches
For her exemplary performance throughout the tournament, Rachel LaSalvia was recognized and named to the all-tournament team.
Looking ahead, Westminster College will face Earlham next Friday at the Case Western Reserve Invitational, with the opening serve scheduled for 7 p.m.
