Despite a valiant attempt from Emory to close the gap, UChicago ultimately claimed the first set 25-23, aided by crucial errors from the Eagles.
The second set continued the trend, as the Maroons surged to an 18-12 advantage again. Yet, the Eagles fought back, winning 10 of the next 12 points to equalize the match. An intense back-and-forth in the third set saw UChicago trailing 21-20, but Diya Mishra’s remarkable four kills in the final moments shifted the momentum, allowing the Maroons to secure a 25-23 win and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

Impressive Performance Against Brandeis
The Maroons proceeded to face Brandeis in their second match of the day, initiating strong with a 10-3 lead. Although the Judges rallied to capture 17 of the following 25 points, earning a 20-18 lead, UChicago maintained composure. They faced three consecutive set points but clinched the first set 26-24 with back-to-back kills from Mishra and Spellings.
