Jaspers Struggle Against Sacred Heart in MAAC Clash
FAIRFIELD, CT – The Manhattan Jaspers Women’s Volleyball team faced a tough challenge on Friday night, losing in straight sets to the Sacred Heart Pioneers during a MAAC matchup, with scores of 18-25, 24-26, and 21-25 at the William H. Pitt Athletic & Convocation Center.
Match Overview
The Jaspers quickly seized an early advantage in the first set, taking a 6-3 lead, thanks in part to a dual block by Emma Francesconi and Abby Morreale. However, a series of service errors allowed Sacred Heart to rally, taking control with a decisive 6-1 run.
As the set progressed, the Pioneers built momentum, winning the first set despite a late surge by the Jaspers, who were unable to maintain their initial lead.
Second Set Highlights
In the second set, Morreale continued her strong performance with another block, helping the Jaspers to an early 4-1 lead. Midway through the set, Manhattan surged again with seven unanswered points, highlighted by a service ace from Katie Powers and another block from Morreale and teammate Hanna Kaczynska. However, trailing at 19-23, Sacred Heart mounted a comeback, eventually winning the set 26-24 with a kill and a dual block.
Final Set Dynamics
The third set saw Sacred Heart jump ahead early with a 9-4 lead. The Jaspers showed resilience, tying the match at 14-14 after a fierce spike from Kaczynska. Despite closing the gap to a single point late in the set, Manhattan could not overcome Sacred Heart’s final push, with the Pioneers closing out the match 25-21.
