HONOLULU — The University of Hawai’i women’s volleyball team achieved a memorable victory against Cal State Fullerton, sweeping the Titans in a decisive match held on Saturday at Bankoh Arena, located at the Stan Sheriff Center. This event coincided with a reunion of the program’s distinguished alumni, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.
Match Overview
With this victory, the Rainbow Wahine improved their overall record to 8-13 and 4-6 in the Big West Conference. The match concluded with set scores of 25-19, 30-28, and 25-14, marking the fourth time this season Hawai’i has achieved a sweep. Notably, this win extended their historical dominance over Cal State Fullerton to 52-0 in their all-time series.
Player Performances
Cha’lei Reid delivered an impressive performance, recording a match-high of 14 kills and contributing 12 digs, thereby securing her third double-double of the season. She also added two service aces and was involved in two blocks. Bri Gunderson supported the team’s efforts with 13 kills at a hitting percentage of .417, while Miliana Sylvester and Tyla Reese Mane each tallied nine kills.

Libero Victoria Leyva equaled 20 digs for the seventh time this season, while freshman Jaci Miyasaki achieved a personal best with three aces. Setter Adrianna Arquette came close to a double-double, finishing with 37 assists and nine digs.
Game Dynamics
Cal State Fullerton took an early lead in the first set with an 11-7 scoreline. Despite trailing, UH managed to rally with a remarkable 12-1 run towards the end of the set. The Titans initially held an 18-13 advantage, but a series of pivotal plays, including a kill from Gunderson, saw UH climb back, ultimately sealing the set with an attack error from Fullerton.

During the second set, UH maintained momentum, starting strong and leading 15-10 at the media timeout. However, the Titans pushed back, evening the score at 17-17. Although UH managed to reach set point at 24-22, Fullerton’s resilience forced extra points. Reid’s back-to-back kills proved instrumental in clinching the set, giving UH a 2-0 match lead.
In the decisive third set, the Rainbow Wahine surged ahead to an early 17-7 lead. With successive aces from Miyasaki and a block from Arquette, the team continued their dominance, concluding the match with kills from Gunderson and Sylvester.
