Stolen Vehicle Incident Leads to Insurance Fraud Arrests in Warren County
WARREN COUNTY, Mississippi — A vehicle theft report has sparked a significant investigation, resulting in the arrest of two women from Vicksburg on charges of insurance fraud and conspiracy.
The Discovery of the Submerged SUV
On March 21, Vicksburg 911 received a call concerning a stolen vehicle in the vicinity of Goodrum Road and Fisher Ferry Road. Simultaneously, dispatchers were alerted about an SUV partially submerged at LeTourneau Landing. In response, a coordinated operation ensued, including divers dispatched from an Ergon Marine vessel to assess the situation. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that no individuals were found inside the vehicle.
Investigation into the 2020 Ford Expedition
The SUV, identified as a 2020 Ford Expedition, was retrieved from the water, prompting law enforcement to launch an investigation into its sinking.
Arrests Made After Investigation
On April 1, Warren County Deputy Dusty Keys arrested 52-year-old Heather Kay McCoy, the woman who initially reported the vehicle as stolen. She faces charges of insurance fraud and conspiracy to commit a felony.
In addition, 45-year-old Amber Spencer, also from Vicksburg, was arrested and charged with conspiracy related to the same case. Each woman has been issued a bond set at $10,000 and will be presented to the next grand jury.
Ongoing Investigation
Sheriff Martin Pace has indicated that the investigation is ongoing but has refrained from commenting on the possibility of further arrests.
