The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) women’s tennis team achieved a significant victory on Friday, April 18, by defeating the Tarleton State University (TSU) team with a score of 4-2 at the Arlington Tennis Center. This win secures UTA a spot in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Tennis Tournament Championship against the top-seeded Grand Canyon University.

The match’s climax centered around senior Ioana Dumitrescu, who faced a challenging opponent in TSU’s junior Ximena Morales. After losing the second set, Dumitrescu rallied back from a 0-2 deficit in the third set to win six consecutive games, sealing UTA’s victory at 4-2.
Post-match, head coach Diego Benitez praised the rivalry with TSU, emphasizing the respect both teams hold for each other. “Tarleton is such a tough team. Every time we play, it’s just big battles,” he remarked.
