Johns Hopkins’ Hassaan Stamps Recognized as Top Assistant Coach
NEW ORLEANS, LA – Hassaan Stamps, an assistant coach for the Johns Hopkins women’s track and field team, has been honored as the NCAA Division III Women’s Mid-Atlantic Outdoor Track Assistant Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). This accolade is particularly notable as it marks the first for Stamps since joining the coaching staff led by head coach Bobby Van Allen earlier this year.
Significance of the Award
This recognition highlights a continued legacy of excellence at Johns Hopkins, with Stamps being the 13th recipient of a USTFCCCA Coach of the Year honor since the 2010-11 academic year, including the third for outdoor track specifically.
Coach’s Perspective
Stamps expressed gratitude for the support he has received, stating, “I would like to thank my athletes as they did all the heavy lifting and repeatedly answered the bell throughout the season. I also want to thank Director of Athletics Jen Baker and coach Van Allen for providing me this amazing opportunity; Johns Hopkins is a special place and in moments like these I feel like I am doing my part to continue to build on the incredible history and tradition of the Blue Jay track and field program.”
Impact on the Team
The Blue Jay sprinters, under Stamps’ guidance, have been instrumental in securing an impressive 15th consecutive Centennial Conference Outdoor Track title. His sprinters contributed significantly to the team’s total of 338.5 points at the championship, accounting for 99 of those points.
Athletes’ Achievements
The sprinters not only excelled individually but also claimed top rankings in four events, including the 100, 200, and 400-meter races, as well as the 4×400 relay. Notably, two members of Stamps’ sprint team earned All-American honors at the recent NCAA Championships, showcasing their competitive prowess on a national level.
