Wolverine Invitational Highlights for USF Women’s Golf Team
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (September 8, 2025) – The University of South Florida women’s golf team commenced the 2025-26 season at the Wolverine Invitational, securing a tie for ninth place. Leading the Bulls were Cherry Marley and Tiphani Knight, who demonstrated commendable performances throughout the tournament.
Player Highlights
Cherry Marley stood out with her impressive second-round performance, finishing with a score of 72 (+1). She concluded the tournament tied for 25th overall, achieving a three-round total of 223 (+10). Notably, Marley recorded a team-high of seven birdies, with a remarkable back-to-back birdie sequence in her second round.
Tiphani Knight also shone brightly during the event, tying for 29th place with a total score of 224 (+11). Her best individual round was similarly a 72 (+1), with two birdies coming in the second round and five overall for the tournament. Knight excelled particularly on par 3 holes, ranking second in the field with an average score of 2.92 (-1).
Other Contributions
Holly McLean added to the team’s success with five birdies across the tournament. Regina Plascencia contributed four birdies over the three rounds, while Valentina Bosselmann was consistent on the 8th hole, achieving birdies in every round and finishing with a total of three birdies. Bosselmann’s performance on par 3 holes was noteworthy; she finished tied for fourth, averaging 3.00 (E).
Upcoming Competitions
The Bulls will be back in action on Monday, September 22, as they travel to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, for the Canada Collegiate Invitational. The event will take place at the Beacon Hall Golf Club and will feature three rounds of competition.
About the Program
The USF women’s golf team is under the direction of AJ Newell, a Tampa native and former LPGA Tour player, who is entering her second season as head coach. In her debut season, Newell led the Bulls to four top-10 finishes and coached Leonor Medeiros to the American All-Conference Team. Before her tenure at South Florida, Newell was an assistant coach at the University of Michigan, aiding the Wolverines in securing a Big Ten title and earning three consecutive NCAA Regional appearances.
