US Open 2024: Significant Prize Money Increases Announced
In a direct response to a letter sent by the top 20 men’s and women’s tennis players earlier this year, the US Open has committed to enhancing the prize money distribution among competitors starting in 2024. The request from players sought a greater share of the revenue generated by the Grand Slam tournaments.
Increased Prize Money Breakdown
The US Open’s tournament organizers have stated, “The US Open has made a deliberate and concerted effort to ensure double-digit percentage increases from 2024 in all rounds of all events for all players.” This initiative also includes a notable rise in the prize money for athletes reaching advanced stages in singles competitions.
Doubles Prize Money Highlights
- For the 2024 tournament, the total prize pool for men’s and women’s doubles will be $4.78 million (£3.6 million), reflecting a 23% increase.
- In a groundbreaking move, winning teams in men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles will each receive $1 million (£749,000) for the first time.
