Launch of the 2023 Women, Peace and Security Index
This year marks a significant milestone—the 25th Anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, occurring at a time of increasing challenges to women’s rights worldwide. In response, the Permanent Mission of Norway, in collaboration with the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS) and the PRIO Centre on Gender, Peace and Security, is set to unveil the latest edition of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Index.
About the Women, Peace and Security Index
The WPS Index evaluates and ranks 181 countries based on 13 indicators related to women’s status and wellbeing. This comprehensive assessment provides critical insights into trends affecting women’s rights globally. The upcoming launch will feature a presentation from the WPS Index Manager, who will share findings on regional patterns, indicator performance over time, and the Index’s importance for policymakers and advocates.
Furthermore, attendees will gain valuable insights on the alarming statistic that a considerable number of women now live in areas affected by conflict.
