Cincinnati Bearcats Fall to BYU in Women’s Soccer Match

On September 27, 2025, the University of Cincinnati (UC) women’s soccer team faced a challenging match against Brigham Young University (BYU) at South Field, ultimately succumbing to a 3-0 defeat.

First Half Highlights

The match began with the Bearcats showing defensive resilience, managing to hold BYU at bay for a significant portion of the first half. However, 11 minutes into the game, BYU midfielder Mia Lopez broke through the UC defense, scoring the first goal and putting the Cougars ahead 1-0.

Shortly after, Lopez was again involved in a scoring attempt. A pass from BYU’s Mackenzee Vance was intercepted by Cincinnati defender Emma Gioffre, but the ball ricocheted upward, allowing Lopez to execute a header into the net, extending the lead to 2-0 despite UC goalkeeper Camryn Miller’s efforts to save the shot.

For the remainder of the half, no additional goals were scored as the Bearcats strengthened their defense, working diligently to maintain possession and minimize further opportunities for BYU.

Second Half Developments

The second half saw an increase in possession for the Bearcats, although BYU continued to control the pace of the game. The decisive moment came at the 65-minute mark when BYU was awarded a penalty kick after a collision involving Cincinnati midfielder Claire Rea. Vance executed the penalty with precision, making the score 3-0.

Despite the setbacks, UC’s Camryn Miller made notable saves towards the end, particularly during another corner kick from BYU. Meanwhile, Coley Sidloski, Rylee Felton, and Anna Barber contributed efforts to regain momentum for the Bearcats but were ultimately unable to convert any scoring opportunities.

Match Summary

Throughout the contest, the Bearcats recorded five shots, with only one on goal, concluding the match without scoring. With this defeat, Cincinnati’s record stands at 2-4-5.

Upcoming Match

The Cincinnati Bearcats are set to play against Arizona State on October 2, 2025, at Gettler Stadium, beginning at 6 p.m.
