Lo’eau LaBonta Called Up to USWNT for October FIFA Window
The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) has announced that Kansas City Current midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta will be joining its roster for the upcoming FIFA international window. This decision follows the exclusion of Seattle Reign FC midfielder Sam Meza, who has been sidelined due to a minor injury.
Career Milestone for LaBonta
This will mark LaBonta’s second call-up to the U.S. National Team, with her first appearance occurring earlier this year. The midfielder has shown remarkable resilience and skill, making her presence felt in the squad.
Current Kansas City Representation
During the October training camp, LaBonta will be accompanied by three of her Kansas City teammates: Michelle Cooper (forward), Claire Hutton (midfielder), and Ally Sentnor (forward/midfielder). As a result, Kansas City Current shares the distinction of having four players on the USWNT roster, tying with Gotham FC for the highest representation among all teams from the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
Upcoming Matches
The USWNT is set to kick off the international window with two friendly matches against Portugal. The first match will take place on Thursday, October 23, at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania, scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT start. Their second encounter will occur on Sunday, October 26, at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Connecticut, commencing at 3 p.m. CT.
Both matches will be broadcast on several platforms, including TNT, truTV, and HBO Max in English, and Peacock in Spanish. Fans can also follow the games on Westwood One Sports radio.
Historic Venue for Upcoming Match
The USWNT will conclude their three-match itinerary against New Zealand on Wednesday, October 29, at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, marking the venue’s inaugural event for a professional women’s sports team. This game will kick off at 7 p.m. CT and will also be available on various broadcasting platforms.
LaBonta’s Impressive Journey
LaBonta made her debut for the USWNT on May 31, becoming the oldest player ever to do so at the age of 32. In her initial appearance, she participated in a 3-0 victory against China PR. Since then, LaBonta has further established her role by contributing as a substitute in a 4-0 win over Jamaica.
Currently serving as captain for the Kansas City Current, she has played a critical role in their record-setting 2025 campaign, helping the team secure its first NWSL Shield. Notably, LaBonta has demonstrated her skill from the penalty spot, converting her 14th career regular-season penalty kick on September 26, 2025, tying her with legends Megan Rapinoe and Marta for the most in NWSL history. This season, every one of her five goals has come from the penalty spot, along with a total of one assist. Additionally, she has received two NWSL Best XI selections this year and ranks third all-time with ten monthly Best XI honors.
