Keiser Women’s Basketball Welcomes New Assistant Coach: Tyler Sobey
Keiser University’s Women’s Basketball program has announced the appointment of Tyler Sobey as their new assistant coach, a move that Head Coach Matthew Strickland describes as a significant enhancement to the team’s coaching staff ahead of the 2025 season.
“I am extremely excited to add Coach Sobey to our Women’s Basketball coaching staff,” stated Strickland. “He has had tremendous success on the national stage coaching NAIA basketball, and he is a huge addition to our program. He is an elite recruiter and developer of student-athletes, and has a great understanding of what it takes to build a championship program. I am excited to have Tyler joining us as we hit the ground running here at Keiser University.”
Impressive Coaching Background
Sobey arrives at Keiser after a distinguished coaching career at LSU Shreveport and LSU Alexandria, where he played a pivotal role in elevating both programs to national prominence within NAIA basketball.
During his tenure at LSU Shreveport, Sobey was instrumental in achieving a remarkable overall record of 120-30. His efforts led to the Pilots clinching three consecutive Red River Athletic Conference Tournament Championships from 2019 to 2022, as well as three regular season titles in 2021, 2022, and 2023. He was actively involved in identifying and nurturing talent, contributing to the development of six NAIA All-Americans, and focusing on strategy through film breakdown and scouting. Off the court, Sobey managed travel arrangements, academic support, and the program’s digital presence.
Previous Achievements
Before his time at LSU Shreveport, Sobey spent two successful seasons at LSU Alexandria, helping the Generals achieve an impressive 59-12 record. Under his guidance, LSUA finished as the NAIA National Runners-Up in 2017, capturing the RRAC Tournament title and securing a regular season championship in 2018. He oversaw an offense that notably led the nation in scoring at an average of 95.4 points per game in the 2018-19 season. His responsibilities also included video scouting, player development, and managing social media platforms.
Educational Background
Sobey holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and communications from the University of Arkansas, which he obtained in 2017, as well as a master’s degree in educational leadership from LSU Shreveport, earned in 2020.
Future Aspirations
Expressing his enthusiasm about the opportunity at Keiser, Sobey remarked, “Really looking forward to working with Coach Strickland again and the opportunity to build something special in West Palm Beach.”
