Tragic Accident on French Ski Slope Claims Life of British Woman
An investigation has been initiated following the tragic death of a British woman in a “violent collision” on a ski slope in southeastern France. The woman, aged 62, succumbed to traumatic shock shortly after the accident, as reported by the French news outlet Le Dauphiné Libéré. Despite the immediate efforts of ski patrollers, an emergency physician, and teams from the Courchevel ski resort, resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.
At the time of the incident, a 35-year-old man, also identified as a British national, was stationary on the slope and sustained a broken leg. He was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The unfortunate event took place at the Les Arcs resort in Savoie on Tuesday morning, while the British woman was navigating the challenging black slope of the Aiguille Rouge mountain when she collided with the man.
Local prosecutor Benoît Bachelet confirmed that an investigation is underway to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. Black runs are known for their high difficulty level, designed for skilled skiers and snowboarders, and it has been reported that both individuals involved were wearing helmets at the time of the collision.
Statistics from Domaines Skiables de France, the association representing ski area operators in the country, indicate that approximately ten fatalities occur each year on French ski slopes.
A spokesperson from the UK Foreign Office expressed their condolences, stating: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who died in France and are in touch with the local authorities.”
