Thomas Partey Pleads Not Guilty to Multiple Charges
Thomas Partey, a former midfielder for Arsenal, has entered a not guilty plea to five counts of rape involving two women and one charge of sexual assault against a third individual. The alleged incidents reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022 during his tenure at Arsenal.
Court Proceedings
The 32-year-old appeared at Southwark Crown Court, where the only statements he made were to confirm his identity and plea. The court has scheduled the trial for November 2, 2024.
Judge Christopher Hehir acknowledged the lengthy schedule, explaining that the backlog of cases at crown courts often leads to extended waiting periods for trials. Despite this delay, Partey has been granted bail under specific conditions:
- He is not permitted to contact any of the three women involved in the case.
- He must inform the police of any long-term address changes or international travel plans.
Career Highlights
Partey currently plays for Villarreal in Spain, having transferred from Arsenal in June 2023. His career includes a notable stint at Arsenal, where he joined in 2020 for approximately £45 million. He featured in 35 Premier League matches last season, netting four goals.
In addition, Partey has earned more than 50 caps for the Ghana national team, participating in prestigious tournaments like the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.
Club Response
Following the legal developments, Arsenal released a statement emphasizing their inability to comment on ongoing proceedings due to the legal implications surrounding the case.
