Game 2 of the Women’s College World Series takes center stage tonight, featuring the Texas Tech Red Raiders against the Texas Longhorns. After weather delays pushed the first pitch from 8 p.m. ET to 8:50 p.m. ET, fans eagerly await to see if Texas Tech can even the series following their narrow loss in Game 1.
Recap of Game 1
The highly anticipated matchup began on Tuesday with Texas Tech initially taking the lead. However, Texas Longhorns showcased their resilience, coming back to clinch a 2-1 victory.
Showcase of Pitching Talent
In Game 1, both teams featured standout performances from their pitchers. Texas’ Teagan Kavan was particularly impressive, allowing just one unearned run and three hits while extending her streak to 24 consecutive innings without giving up an earned run.
On the other hand, Texas Tech’s NiJaree Canady also delivered a strong performance, striking out seven batters over six innings. Despite her efforts, she faced a critical moment in the bottom of the sixth, where an unintentional mistake led to a pivotal play. Attempting to intentionally walk Reese Atwood, Canady inadvertently pitched a hittable ball, allowing Atwood to drive in two runs and secure the victory for the Longhorns.
“It’s a close game, you gotta take risks,” Atwood said. “The first pitch, I thought I could have hit. And the next one, she kind of slowed down on it so I took my chance and I got it.”
