TCU Secures First NCAA Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship
Gulf Shores, Alabama – In a remarkable comeback, Texas Christian University (TCU) triumphed over Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in a tightly contested match, concluding the NCAA women’s beach volleyball championship with a 3-2 victory. This marks a historic moment as TCU claims its first title, breaking the dominance previously held by USC and UCLA.
Milestone Victory for TCU
With an impressive season record of 32 wins against 5 losses, TCU has become the first university aside from USC and UCLA to clinch the national title. The championship match showcased the resilience and skill of TCU’s athletes, particularly the duo of Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno, who returned after taking a year off to participate in the Olympics.
Championship Match Analysis
Alvarez and Moreno faced an initial setback, losing their first set to LMU’s Michelle Shaffer and Anna Pelloia with a score of 18-21. However, they rallied back, winning the next two sets decisively (21-15 and 15-6) to secure the championship.
Outstanding Performances
- TCU’s Sofia Izuzquiza and Allanis Navas contributed to the team’s victory with a strong performance, winning their match 21-16, 21-13.
- In the four-person match, Anhelina Khmil and Ana Vergara displayed exceptional teamwork, achieving a flawless record of 21-0 this season with a 21-14, 21-19 win.
LMU, with a season record of 38 wins and 7 losses, did not yield easily. Chloe Hooker and Vilhelmiina Prihti from LMU secured a point by defeating their opponents with scores of 21-16 and 21-17. Additionally, Tanon Rosenthal and Giuliana Poletti Corrales contributed another point for LMU, winning both sets 21-16.
