Golf Tournament to Support Ovarian Cancer Awareness in Tucson
TUCSON, Ariz. — In recognition of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, The Stratton Ovarian Cancer Foundation (SOCF) will host its annual golf tournament on Saturday, September 13, 2025. The event aims to raise funds to assist women experiencing financial burdens due to ovarian cancer treatments.
Empowering Women Through Financial Support
Founded by ovarian cancer survivor Angie Kuzma, SOCF is dedicated to providing critical financial aid for women undergoing treatment. After her diagnosis in 2018, Kuzma traveled nationwide seeking the best medical care. Following her remission in 2019, she felt compelled to support others facing similar challenges. “We wanted to be able to pay for Airbnbs so that women felt they could go to better specialists and clinics,” Kuzma stated.
The Mission Behind SOCF
Alongside co-founder Pete Peterson, who also serves in Stratton Real Estate Group, Kuzma’s initiative aims to alleviate the financial stress that often accompanies severe illness. Peterson remarked, “Watching Angie go through that, not being able to work and then having bills come due, we felt this was a great way to give back to our community.”
Importance of Awareness and Early Detection
Kuzma emphasizes the importance of awareness, noting that ovarian cancer is frequently misdiagnosed due to its similarities with intestinal issues. “Listen to your body,” she advises. “If you feel something is wrong, keep fighting until you get an answer. I had a tumor that was eight pounds, and even then, they didn’t think it was cancer.”
Golf Tournament Details and Silent Auction
The tournament will feature 125 golfers, with all spots currently filled; however, the community can still contribute through a silent auction, which will remain open until 1 p.m. on the day of the event. Auction items include:
- A signed Taylor Swift guitar
- A signed Kobe Bryant plaque
- A whiskey lovers’ basket
- A trip to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail
- A vacation to Cancun
- Massage gift cards
The fundraising goal for the tournament is set at $75,000.
