Reform MP Sarah Pochin Addresses Safety Concerns Amid Immigration Debates
Concerns Over Women’s Safety
Sarah Pochin, a newly elected Member of Parliament for Runcorn & Helsby, has expressed support for British men organizing private street patrols aimed at safeguarding women. Her comments come amidst growing public concern over incidents of sexual assault.
Pochin praised the efforts of these men, stating they were acting responsibly to protect their family members, a sentiment she voiced during a Women for Reform press conference. She encouraged community involvement in ensuring safety for local women.
Claims Against Immigrant Behavior
At the press conference, Pochin made statements regarding illegal immigrants, particularly from predominantly Muslim countries, implying that some hold outdated views on women’s rights. “The inconvenient truth for the left is that the culture of men from predominantly Muslim countries like Afghanistan is one that holds a medieval view of women’s rights,” she said, suggesting these views pose a threat to women’s safety.
She further claimed that the arrival of these men into communities could lead to increased risks of sexual frustrations that may manifest as assault.
Support for Community Patrols
Pochin referenced the example of Peter McCormack, a businessman who has hired private security guards to patrol Bedford’s streets. She likened this initiative to the Guardian Angels organization that operates in New York, which employs unarmed volunteers for community safety. Pochin remarked, “It’s no wonder that we’re now hearing of groups of concerned British men mobilising themselves into Guardian Angels-style street patrols to protect their daughters, their girlfriends, their wives, even their mothers.”
Government Response and Policy Proposals
Pochin criticized the government for allegedly being “in denial” about the scale of violence against women and girls. She announced that Reform Party intends to implement strict deportation policies targeting small-boat migrants living in multiple occupancy housing, along with foreign criminals. The party plans to unveil a comprehensive deportation strategy within the next two weeks.
Party Support and Broader Implications
Notably, support for the Reform Party has increased among women voters recently, narrowing the gap in voting intentions between male and female supporters. While some have attributed this shift to Farage’s previous leadership, there are ongoing concerns about his ties to controversial figures, such as former President Donald Trump, which some believe have deterred female voters.
Reactions to the Party’s Position
Opposition parties have criticized the Reform Party’s stance. Labour has called out the party for voting against essential legislative measures aimed at enhancing the safety of women and girls, highlighting a perceived contradiction in their policies. A spokesperson stated, “It’s shameful that Reform voted against crucial new measures to make women and girls safer on our streets.”
