Katie Sullivan Recognized as Finalist for DIII Honda Athlete of the Year Award
Johns Hopkins University senior Katie Sullivan has been named a finalist for the DIII Honda Athlete of the Year award for soccer, as announced by Chris Voelz, the Executive Director of The Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda. This accolade highlights Sullivan as one of just 11 remarkable finalists competing for this prestigious honor, which aims to celebrate the top NCAA Division III athletes across various sports.
The final recipient of this award will be selected through national voting by representatives from more than 1,000 NCAA member schools and will be announced at the conclusion of the academic year, highlighting the continuity of the CWSA program now entering its 49th year.
“I am truly honored to be a finalist for the Division III Honda Athlete of the Year Award,” Sullivan expressed. “Playing soccer at Johns Hopkins has provided me with so many opportunities, allowing me to compete at the highest level while attending one of the country’s premier universities. Winning a National Championship has been a dream of mine, but even more importantly, it has helped me grow as an athlete and an individual. The friendships I’ve made will last a lifetime, and I’ve been well-prepared for my future career.”
Outstanding Achievements and Recognition
Hailing from Yardley, Pennsylvania, Sullivan was recently honored as a 2024 First Team All-American by United Soccer Coaches, marking her fourth All-America recognition—making her the first player in the history of the program to achieve such a distinction. This is her third appearance on the First Team (2021, 2023, 2024), following her Second Team selection in 2022. Impressively, Sullivan stands out as the sole player on this year’s All-America team to have received accolades throughout all four years of her collegiate career.
Beyond her All-America honors, Sullivan has earned recognition as a four-time United Soccer Coaches All-Region honoree and has consistently been named to the All-Centennial Conference team, clinching the title of 2024 Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Year on two occasions.
This season, Sullivan led the Blue Jays with an impressive tally of 19 goals, eight assists, and 46 points. As she wraps up her collegiate career, she ranks second in the program’s history with 60 goals and 151 points, and she is tied for second in assists with 31.
Academic Excellence and Community Involvement
Off the field, Sullivan was recognized as a Third Team College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American while pursuing her studies in economics. She has been actively involved with the Advocates for the Homeless and Those in Need (AHTN) Shared Meals Program since 2017, demonstrating her commitment to community service.
“I am thrilled to see that Katie has been selected as a finalist for the DIII Honda Award,” said her head coach, Dan Weiler. “Her on-field talent has been evident over the last four years, but she’s also excelled academically at one of the most prestigious universities. Katie has been an outstanding representative of our program and Johns Hopkins University both on and off the field, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this honor than Katie Sullivan.
