Southern A’Chord, a newly established women’s a cappella ensemble in Ruston, Louisiana, is welcoming new members during its upcoming membership drive on Thursday, September 18, at 6 PM. This event will take place in the fellowship hall of the Presbyterian Church of Ruston, located at 212 N. Bonner, the chorus’s designated rehearsal venue.
Interested singers do not need to register in advance. “Guests can simply walk in and join the music,” stated Director Candice Bassett from Grayson.
Event Details and Participation
During the membership drive, attendees will have the opportunity to see firsthand how the chorus operates, including vocal warmups, rehearsal dynamics, and techniques. They will also have a chance to sing along with existing members. New members joining now will be eligible for participation in the ensemble’s upcoming holiday performances.
Even if potential members cannot attend the entire rehearsal, Bassett encourages them to stop by, meet current members, and listen to the practices. Those unable to make this event are welcome to join any future rehearsals.
About Southern A’Chord
The chorus was founded in the fall of 2024, beginning with a Welcome Night and is now organizing its first major recruitment drive. Comprising 16 women from various backgrounds across North Louisiana, Southern A’Chord seeks to cultivate a supportive and service-oriented musical environment. Their repertoire includes a range of genres, such as pop, gospel, patriotic, and seasonal holiday music.
“Whether you’ve sung for years or are just starting out, there’s a place for you here,” Bassett emphasized.
All voice types are welcome, and there is a particular need for alto voices to strengthen the harmony-rich baritone parts.
The chorus recently completed a successful community performance titled “Southern A’Chord: Songs of Summer” on July 31.
