The job landscape in India is undergoing a remarkable change, particularly benefitting women, with opportunities projected to rise by 48% by 2025 compared to the prior year, as reported by foundit. Key sectors driving this growth include Information Technology (IT), Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI), Manufacturing, and Healthcare, alongside an increasing need for specialized skills in emerging technology positions.
“The evolution within the Indian job market is creating enhanced access and opportunities for women, especially in high-growth sectors and technology-oriented roles,” stated Anupama Bhimrajka, VP-Marketing at foundit.
“We have also recorded a 55% increase in work-from-office arrangements, indicating shifting priorities among employers. While challenges remain, such as salary discrepancies and changing work preferences, the overall outlook for women’s participation in the workforce in 2025 is highly optimistic.”
The data indicates that jobs for women in 2025 will predominantly cater to early-career professionals, with those having 0-3 years of experience constituting 53% of opportunities, while 32% will be available to those with 4-6 years. Opportunities decrease with increasing experience levels, with only 11% available for individuals with 7-10 years, 2% for 11-15 years, and a mere 1% for those surpassing 15 years.
Moreover, fresh graduates are in high demand, making up nearly 25% of total job openings for women, especially in sectors such as IT, Human Resources (HR), and Marketing.
Industry Trends: Paving the Way for Women in IT and BFSI
Women are most represented in the white-collar workforce within the IT sector (23%), followed by BFSI (11%) and Education (6%). These sectors remain the leading employers for women professionals in India.
A sector-specific analysis reveals a change in women’s job distribution. While IT and Software continue to employ the most women, its share has slightly declined from 36% in February 2024 to 34% in February 2025. Recruitment and staffing roles also saw a decrease from 24% to 20%, and BFSI dropped from 23% to 21%. Conversely, the fields of Advertising, Market Research, Public Relations, and Events experienced growth from 8% to 11%, and opportunities in Engineering and Production increased from 6% to 8%.
Another noteworthy trend is the rising participation of women in specialized tech roles, with 26% currently holding positions in areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, Data Science, and Cloud Computing, indicating a significant shift toward advanced skill sets.
The IT sector remains the leading area for women professionals, with its representation increasing from 25% in 2024 to 32% in 2025. Other important functions include Human Resources, which rose from 18% to 21%, and Sales and Business Development, which saw an increase from 12% to 15%.
Broadening Horizons: Opportunities Beyond Major Cities
Increasingly, women professionals are finding roles outside India’s primary metropolitan areas. The report indicates that 41% of women’s job opportunities in 2025 are in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities like Nashik, Surat, Coimbatore, and Jaipur, compared to 59% in Tier-1 cities, reflecting a strategic shift in hiring practices as companies seek talent beyond traditional corporate centers.
Among Tier-1 cities, Delhi/NCR leads with a job share for women rising from 21% in February 2024 to 22% in February 2025. While Mumbai’s job share remained steady at 15%, Bangalore experienced a decrease from 17% to 15%, and Hyderabad’s share fell from 11% to 9%. However, Pune saw growth, with its share increasing from 8% to 10%.
The report also explores salary trends for women in 2025. A significant portion (81%) of job openings for women fall within the Rs 0-10 lakh annual salary bracket. Positions offering Rs 11-25 lakh comprise 11%, while those with salaries of Rs 25 lakh and above make up 8% of the total job opportunities available.
