Macalester College Women’s Soccer Secures Victory Against UW-Superior
SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Macalester College women’s soccer team achieved a significant victory on Tuesday night, defeating UW-Superior 3-1 at SCCU Stadium. This win marks the fourth consecutive triumph for the Scots and places their overall record at 8-6-2, while UW-Superior’s record now stands at 8-6-4.
Match Overview
In a match that saw dynamic shifts in momentum, both teams entered halftime tied at 1-1. Macalester’s momentum began with an initial goal by junior forward Annelise McGee. McGee capitalized on a corner kick in the 29th minute, scoring after her shot was deflected off the hands of Yellowjackets goalkeeper Quinn Clark.
Just six minutes later, UW-Superior equalized when Brook Judnick found the net, setting the stage for an intense second half.
Second Half Highlights
The Scots took control in the second half. First-year midfielder Evelyn Savoie demonstrated excellent ball control, recovering a misplaced pass and setting up junior midfielder Adi Nhouyvanisvong. Nhouyvanisvong then assisted sophomore Erica Hamilton, who unleashed a powerful shot from 20 yards out, restoring Macalester’s lead in the 54th minute.
Shortly after, in the 59th minute, Savoie dribbled through UW-Superior’s defense to feed first-year forward Mikayla Edmunds. Edmunds finished confidently from close range, bringing the score to 3-1.
Defensive Performance
Despite UW-Superior’s attempts to narrow the gap, the Scots held strong defensively. Macalester’s junior goalkeeper Ramatoulaye Bah stepped in during the final 18 minutes, successfully saving both shots on target. Earlier, sophomore goalkeeper Lily Salazar had a solid performance, logging one save in her 72 minutes on the field.
The Scots outshot the Yellowjackets 18-10 during the match, showcasing their offensive prowess.
