Eric MoodyJul 11, 2025, 01:30 PM ET

CloseEric Moody is a writer for fantasy football, men’s and women’s basketball, and sports betting at ESPN. Eric joined ESPN in 2021 after working as a senior fantasy analyst at Pro Football Network. Prior to that, he spent much of his career as a manager at a Fortune 100 financial services company.

In the world of sports, one constant is change. While consistency serves as the primary goal for fantasy managers, the unpredictable nature of player performance creates a dynamic landscape that can shift significantly over time. With a packed schedule, monitoring 44 matches over four months can become quite daunting. This week-by-week examination of players helps to simplify the process for managers, allowing them to concentrate on current performance metrics, trends, and changes.

Player Performers on the Rise

Naz Hillmon, F, Atlanta Dream

Currently rostered in just 14.6% of ESPN leagues, Naz Hillmon has seen a rise of 3.9% in demand. Her pivotal role in transforming the Atlanta Dream’s season into one full of playoff potential cannot be overstated. Hillmon’s contributions mainly include significant points and rebounds, complemented by assists, steals, and blocks. Notably, she has scored 20 or more fantasy points in four of her last six games, even reaching a high of 31 points in one outing. For those looking to enhance their team, she’s a strong candidate to consider before the waiver wire becomes crowded.

Erica Wheeler, G, Seattle Storm

Standing at a 63.6% roster rate with a 5.5% increase, Erica Wheeler’s stellar performance this season has surprised many. Despite being undrafted in numerous fantasy leagues, she now ranks just within the top 50 players after averaging 24.1 fantasy points over her last ten outings. As a crucial element in the Seattle Storm’s rotation, Wheeler is an appealing option for fantasy managers seeking to fill gaps at the guard position, particularly given the numerous injuries impacting the league this season.

Players Experiencing Declines

Kayla McBride, G, Minnesota Lynx

With a current roster rate of 95.3%, Kayla McBride has experienced a decline of 1.2% in fantasy points. Once a cornerstone pick for many managers, McBride’s recent performances have not aligned with expectations, averaging only 16 fantasy points per game over her last five games. Despite this downturn, she continues to log significant playing time at 31.6 minutes per game. Although fluctuations have occurred, her established role within a top-ranked Minnesota team suggests a potential rebound may be on the horizon.

Aari McDonald, G, Indiana Fever

With only 15.8% of ESPN managers currently rostering her—a drop of 2.4%—Aari McDonald’s recent performance marks a decline from her earlier success. After signing a rest-of-season contract with the Indiana Fever, she began strong, recording 24+ minutes and 20+ fantasy points in her first three games. However, her scoring has dropped to 15 points or fewer in her recent outings. Although she remains in the starting lineup alongside Caitlin Clark, inconsistencies have led to coaching adjustments. As the Fever approach a crucial four-game stretch ahead of the All-Star break, monitoring her role will be vital, as changes could benefit other players like Lexie Hull, currently rostered at 40.2%.

Conclusion

As the season unfolds, staying informed on players’ performances can have a significant impact on your fantasy league standing. Identifying risers and fallers weekly helps managers adapt to the ever-changing narrative of the sports landscape. Keep an eye on these players to maximize your fantasy outcomes and navigate the challenges that come with injuries and fluctuations in performance.
