Patriot League Outdoor Championship Highlights: Holy Cross Track and Field

WORCESTER, Mass.— The Holy Cross track and field teams wrapped up the Patriot League Outdoor Championship held on May 3 at Hart Turf Field & Hart Track. The men’s team achieved a sixth-place finish out of nine teams, while the women’s team secured fifth place among ten competing squads. The results saw the men tally 46 points and the women accumulate 83 points.

Women’s Meet Highlights

  • Haley Murphy: The senior captain set a new school record in the 400m with a winning time of 59.08, surpassing her previous record of 59.60 set earlier this season.
  • Celia Kulis: The junior broke her own heptathlon record with 5,006 points, earning a silver medal. Kulis had previously set the record at 4,653 points in May 2024.
  • Ella Grey: The senior shattered the 100m hurdles record with a bronze medal-winning time of 13.84, breaking the former record of 13.92 held by Kulis.
  • Abby Hughes: Another senior captain, Hughes, broke the outdoor 1500m record with a time of 4:24.88, previously held by Zoe Matherne since 2018.
  • Molly O’Connor: The senior captain broke her own 400m record twice within the championship, finishing in 54.81 and improving her previous best from earlier in the competition.
  • 4x100m Relay: The team, consisting of Ciaravino, O’Connor, DiEsso, and Desmarais, set a new school record with a time of 46.00, breaking the prior record from 2019.
  • 4x400m Relay: O’Connor, Lusby, Murray, and Murphy also set a new record in this event, finishing in 3:45.99, bettering the previous mark established last year.
  • Notable Individual Finishes: Desmarais placed fifth in the 100m dash and took another fifth in the 200m dash, while Lusby secured seventh in the 800m run. Freshman Deforge finished ninth in both the shot put and discus.

Men’s Meet Highlights

  • Brian Fennelly: The senior captain took home a silver medal in the 110m hurdles, posting a personal best of 14.07, just shy of the school record.
  • Tristan Miller: The sophomore achieved fourth place in the 400m dash final with a time of 47.54.
  • 1500m Race: Joseph Mahon and Liam Lyons performed well, finishing fourth and fifth respectively, with times of 3:51.26 and 3:52.09.
  • 400m Hurdles: Both Fennelly and Matthew Perkins competed, with Perkins finishing fifth.
  • Field Events: Freshman Tireni Asenuga placed eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.13m.
  • Relay Events: The 4x100m relay team, including Fennelly, Bergin, DeBoth, and Gentchos, finished fifth, while the 4x400m team, featuring Mott, Boothroyd, Perkins, and Miller, took seventh.

Looking Ahead

The Holy Cross track and field teams are set to participate in the New England Outdoor Championship, occurring over two days starting May 9 at the UMass Track & Field Complex in Amherst, Massachusetts.
