Record Prize Money Announced for ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025
In a significant advancement for women’s cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled an unprecedented prize pool for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. This highly anticipated tournament is scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2, 2025.
Prize Money Breakdown
The champion team will receive a remarkable $4.48 million (approximately Rs 39.55 crore), representing a substantial rise from the $1.32 million (around Rs 11.65 crore) awarded in the last edition in 2022. This surge in prize money is part of an overall prize pool of $13.88 million (around Rs 122.5 crore), marking a staggering 297% increase from the previous edition’s total of $3.5 million (approximately Rs 31 crore).
Comparison with Men’s World Cup Prize Money
Notably, the total prize pool for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 exceeds that of the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023, which had a prize offering of $10 million (about Rs 88.26 crore). This development signifies a pivotal moment in the promotion of equality within the sport.
Enhanced Prize Distribution

- Runners-up will earn $2.24 million (approximately Rs 19.77 crore), up from $600,000 (about Rs 5.3 crore).
- Losing semi-finalists will each receive $1.12 million (around Rs 9.89 crore), compared to $300,000 (about Rs 2.65 crore) previously.

ICC’s Commitment to Women’s Cricket
ICC Chairman Jay Shah referred to this announcement as a “defining milestone” for women’s cricket. He stated, “This four-fold increase in prize money is a landmark moment and reflects our clear commitment to the long-term growth of women’s cricket. Our message is simple: women cricketers must know they will be treated on par with men if they choose this sport professionally.”
This initiative is in line with the ICC’s ongoing efforts to promote women’s cricket on a global scale, as evidenced by similar decisions made ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Looking Ahead
Shah expressed confidence in the future trajectory of women’s cricket, noting that such steps will amplify its growth. He urged fans, media, sponsors, and cricketing boards to actively support this evolving landscape.
As the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 approaches, the increased prize money is more than just a financial incentive; it represents a significant step towards achieving parity in cricket and encouraging greater participation in women’s sports.
