Concerns Raised Over Women’s Safety in Odisha
Senior Congress leader Jaydev Jena has expressed deep concerns regarding the recent governance under the BJP party in Odisha, highlighting, “After 77 years of independence, this is the first time the BJP has come to power in our state. With only eight months in office, their management is faltering, leaving citizens questioning the very existence of a functioning government.”
In response to the allegations made by the Congress party, the Chief Minister defended his administration on Monday, asserting that crime rates against women have decreased since the BJP took charge. He announced plans to release a White Paper addressing the situation, aiming to shed light on women’s safety in Odisha.
The Chief Minister commented on the Congress’s protests held near his residence on March 1, stating, “Let the Congress focus on criticizing the government. They are a sinking party resorting to such agitations to regain visibility. Their claims are baseless.” He emphasized the importance of addressing issues related to women’s safety within the formal legislative process, encouraging the Congress to raise them during the assembly sessions, specifically during the Question Hour, Zero Hour, or through Adjournment Motions.
In reaction to the Chief Minister’s remarks, Congress spokesperson Das responded firmly, stating, “Let the citizens decide if the Congress is indeed a sinking party. If the Congress is irrelevant, why does the Chief Minister feel the need to respond to our protests regarding women’s safety? His reaction indicates that he recognizes the significance of our presence in Odisha.”
