NIU Women’s Golf Team Shines at 2025 Mid-American Conference Championships
MUNCIE, Indiana—The Northern Illinois University (NIU) women’s golf team kicked off its participation in the 2025 Mid-American Conference Championships with an impressive performance at the Delaware Country Club. Leading the charge for the Huskies, Mia Raines from Galena, Ohio, notched a strong start, ending the first round in a tie for fifth place.
Top Performers
Raines displayed exceptional skill on the course, finishing her round at even par with a total of 72 strokes. Her round included three birdies, notably achieving back-to-back birdies early on in her round.
NIU head coach Kim Kester expressed satisfaction with her team’s performance, stating, “Overall, pleased with the day. (The) ladies fought hard today and eliminated the big numbers. (We) kept it consistent, and it was great to see Mia have an even par round.”
Other notable performances from the team included:
- Alexa Ouellet (Toronto, Ontario, Canada): Finished four over par, placing her in a tie for 23rd with a score of 76. Ouellet recorded two birdies during her round.
- Dakota Tallent (Las Vegas, Nevada): Finished with a score of 77 (+5), landing in a tie for 27th place, highlighted by birdies at both the start and end of her round.
- Emma Thorman (Macomb, Illinois): Concluded her round with a score of 78 (+6), placing her in a tie for 29th.
- Caroline Kent (Frisco, Texas): Wrapped up the round for NIU with a score of 80 (+8), achieving the lone birdie on the 18th hole for her team.
Team Standings
The NIU team currently sits in 7th place with a cumulative score of 303 (+15) after the first round.
