The Fourth CMWA Wuzhou Women Science and Technology Award Ceremony
On July 25, 2015, the fourth award ceremony of the CMWA Wuzhou Women Science and Technology Award took place in Beijing, recognizing outstanding contributions in medical fields. Among the distinguished awardees were two prominent researchers from Sun Yat-sen University: Professor Gu Jieruo and Professor Wei Xi, who received accolades for their innovative clinical research.
A Celebration of Women’s Contributions to Science
Established in 2008 by the China Medical Women’s Association (CMWA) in collaboration with GlobalCare Women and Children’s Hospital, the CMWA Wuzhou Women Science and Technology Award is designed to honor the achievements of women in the medical field. This biennial event applauds excellence across various categories, including:

The 2015 ceremony recognized 25 winners, with 4 recipients for basic medical research, 5 for medical administration, and 16 for clinical research innovations.
Profiles of Award-Winning Researchers
Professor Gu Jieruo
Professor Gu Jieruo serves as the Director of the Rheumatology and Immunology Department at The Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. Her academic credentials include membership in the American College of Rheumatology, a role as a committee member with the Assessment of Spondyloarthritis International Society, and vice-chairwoman of the Rheumatology Department of the Chinese Medical Association.
Her research focuses on genomic studies and clinical aspects of spondyloarthropathies, with particular expertise in ankylosing spondylitis. She is a lead investigator in several clinical trials aimed at improving diagnostics and therapies in this area.
Professor Wei Xi
Professor Wei Xi obtained her Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the West China School of Stomatology, followed by a Master’s degree in Stomatology from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She holds a PhD from the Guanghua School of Stomatology at Sun Yat-sen University and completed her Master of Dental Surgery in Endodontics at the University of Hong Kong.
Currently, she holds the position of Professor and Director in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics at Guanghua School of Stomatology. An active member of the Society of Cariology and Endodontics within the Chinese Stomatological Association, she has been recognized with multiple awards for her contributions to science and technology, publishing over 110 scientific articles and co-authoring several books.
