Preeclampsia Foundation Secures Funding to Enhance Women’s Health
Melbourne, Fla., Nov. 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The Preeclampsia Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the challenges posed by hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, has been selected as one of over 80 recipients of a significant funding initiative aimed at improving women’s health globally. This funding comes from Action for Women’s Health, a $250 million global campaign launched in 2024.
Background on Hypertensive Disorders
Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), including preeclampsia, impact approximately 5% to 8% of pregnancies and remain a leading cause of maternal and infant mortality worldwide.
Addressing Inequities in Women’s Health
Despite representing half of the global population, women experience considerable disparities in health resources and research. Women’s health has historically received insufficient funding and research, often leaving existing solutions inaccessible to those in need.
Recognition of Progress
“This award is a tremendous recognition of the progress made by the Preeclampsia Foundation over the last twenty-five years to prevent illness and death of moms and their babies,” said Robyn D’Oria, Chair of the Preeclampsia Foundation Board of Directors. “Right now, we know that we need better solutions for women diagnosed with preeclampsia than facing early delivery – with more investment in research, we can identify better ways to care for our women and their babies.”
Funding Impact and Selection Process
A total of over 4,000 organizations from 119 countries applied for this funding opportunity, presenting solutions that cater to women across various life stages. Following an extensive evaluation process by peer reviewers and experts, 80+ organizations were chosen for funding, many of which have previously faced barriers in accessing major financial support.
Continuing Research and Care Improvements
D’Oria underscored that this funding is a crucial foundation for addressing existing gaps in research and care. A report published in 2022 by the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the Preeclampsia Foundation outlines key areas in need of funding, including predictions, prevention strategies, and post-delivery care for preeclampsia.
