Portland State University to Celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day with Special Clinic
Portland, Ore. — In honor of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, Portland State Athletics is hosting a unique clinic during the Vikings’ women’s basketball game against Eastern Washington on February 8.
Clinics and Activities for Young Girls
The clinic is scheduled from 1 to 2 p.m. in the practice gym, prior to the Vikings’ game which tips off at 2 p.m. Young girls aged 12 and under are invited to participate, where they will have the opportunity to engage in various activity stations led by Portland State student-athletes from different sports teams. Each station will showcase a unique aspect of the athletes’ respective sports, aimed at encouraging young girls to explore their interests in athletics.
No Payment Needed for Participation
Participation in the clinic does not require advanced registration. The only prerequisite for attendance is a ticket to the women’s basketball game on the same day, making it accessible for all young aspiring athletes.
Recognizing Female Athletes and Sports Participation
This year, National Girls and Women in Sports Day is officially observed on February 5. The day highlights the achievements of female athletes and emphasizes the positive effects that participating in sports can have on women and girls.
The Vikings previously offered similar clinics in 2019 and 2020, reinforcing their commitment to supporting and inspiring the next generation of female athletes.
Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness
In addition to celebrating female athletes, the game on February 8 will also serve as the Vikings’ Pink Out event, honoring those affected by breast cancer. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to show solidarity and support for this important cause.
Join us in celebrating the empowerment of women in sports and fostering a love for athletics in young girls at this inspiring event!
