Marsha’s to Open as Philadelphia’s Premier Queer Women’s Sports Bar

In a significant milestone for Philadelphia’s LGBTQ+ community, Marsha’s is set to officially launch on September 19, 2025, at 4 p.m. The venue, located at 430 South Street, aims to create an inclusive space where sports fans, particularly women and queer individuals, can gather and celebrate their passion for sports.

Welcoming Atmosphere for All

The establishment is founded by Chivonn Anderson, a local entrepreneur who aims to make Marsha’s a hub for connection and celebration. “I want to make Marsha’s an anchor for Philadelphia — for the queer community, for the sports community, and for anybody that just wants to go out and have fun and feel safe and be seen,” Anderson stated.

A Tribute to Queer Activism

Named in honor of Marsha P. Johnson, a pivotal figure in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights, Marsha’s seeks to honor queer history while fostering a friendly environment. This dedication underscores the venue’s commitment to inclusivity and social responsibility.

Your Sports Destination

Marsha’s will feature numerous screens dedicated to women’s sports, making it a go-to venue for fans of all local teams, particularly Philadelphia’s sports franchises. Additionally, there will be programming dedicated to queer cinema and television, ensuring diverse storytelling and representation within the space.

Community Collaboration

While Marsha’s operates independently from the Watch Party PHL initiative — which focuses on gatherings for women’s sports — it aims to collaborate with the group, continuing to build a strong network for sports enthusiasts in the city.

“Anderson is excited to host events for big games but will keep most of the TVs tuned into women’s sports even when there isn’t a major tournament to watch,” a recent article from the Philly Gay News noted.

Location Significance

Situated in a historically vibrant part of South Street, which has long been a haven for alternative culture, Marsha’s occupies the spot previously held by Woolly Mammoth, enhancing the neighborhood’s diverse offerings.

Celebrating Women in Sports

To commemorate the launch of Marsha’s, here’s a nod to some iconic female athletes who have paved the way:

  • Amanda Nunes
  • Billie Jean King
  • Martina Navratilova
  • Abby Wambach

Conclusion

The opening of Marsha’s marks an exciting development for Philadelphia’s sports landscape. With its focus on inclusivity and community, it promises to be a unique venue for all sports lovers.
