In a thrilling semi-final match that showcased remarkable resilience, one player reflected on her journey, stating, “I don’t think it’s hit me yet. I was almost planning where I was going to go for dinner, whether we could get an early flight home, all that kind of stuff.”
As she found herself trailing at crucial moments, her mindset shifted. “But then I got to 10, 11, 12, and I said to myself, ‘you know what, if she’s going to win this match, she’s going to have to win this match. Let’s dig deep. You’ve come from behind before; you can do anything you set your mind to.’”
Reflecting on her hard-fought victory, she expressed her satisfaction, mentioning, “I’m really ecstatic with that win because I think I just proved to myself that I can do anything.” She added that she felt less pressure being four-down with five holes to play compared to being three-down after the first three, admitting, “I was standing on the 4th tee box and I’m like, ‘I don’t know what to do, I don’t know what just happened’.”
Looking ahead, she acknowledged her upcoming opponent, stating, “Paula is a great player so it (the final) is going to be a long day but I’m there for it. As long as I keep playing Farah golf, then anything can happen.”
Martin Sampedro Advances in the Other Semi-Final
In a parallel semi-final match, Spain’s Martin Sampedro demonstrated skill and composure, defeating her compatriot Paula Francisco 3&2. With Francisco serving as her caddie, Sampedro capitalized on her strong bunker play, which was particularly noteworthy.
After taking an early lead, a crucial up-and-down from the sand on the 9th hole allowed her to maintain momentum. Another successful escape from the bunker on the 10th extended her advantage to three holes. The highlight of her round came when Sampedro sank an impressive 18-footer for a birdie on the 14th, which she celebrated with a fist pump that signified the importance of that moment.
Despite her opponent, Caterina Don of Italy, showing admirable determination and birdieing the 15th to keep her hopes alive, Sampedro ultimately closed out the match on the following hole, solidifying her position in the finals.
