Kent Pastrana Stars in UST’s Record-Setting Win Against UE

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) claimed a commanding 125-50 victory over the University of the East (UE) in the UAAP Season 88 Women’s Basketball Tournament, marking their latest triumph that guarantees a playoff position with a twice-to-beat advantage.

Pastrana’s Career Night

Kent Pastrana delivered a standout performance, scoring a career-high 35 points. Building on her 25-point display in the previous game against the University of the Philippines, Pastrana showcased her shooting prowess, going 13-of-21 from the field. Additionally, she secured 12 rebounds, recorded five steals, provided two assists, and contributed one block, wrapping up her stellar outing with a remarkable plus-50 rating in just under 19 minutes of play.

“I am so happy sa performance ko today. ‘Yon lang din sinasabi ko palagi sa sarili ko na bibigay ko lahat ng makakaya ko sa team para manalo every game and of course, as a leader, I’ll do my best palagi para makatulong sa teammates and coaches ko,” said Pastrana.

UST’s Dominance

The Growling Tigresses have remained unbeaten, now boasting an impressive 11-0 record, with an average winning margin of 37 points across their matches. The team is looking to harness this momentum as they head into the final stretch of the elimination round, facing formidable opponents including Ateneo de Manila University and defending champions National University.

Game Highlights

  • UST swiftly established dominance with 33 points in the first quarter.
  • By halftime, UE found themselves trailing significantly, with a score of 70-29.
  • Pastrana was instrumental in the third quarter, scoring 17 points and helping the team to a 97-38 lead.

Contributions from Teammates

  • Rachelle Ambos: 11 points, 7 rebounds
  • Coi Danganan: 11 points, 6 rebounds
  • Karylle Sierba: 11 points with three three-pointers

Coaching Thoughts

Assistant coach Ged Austria expressed pride in the team’s effort, emphasizing the importance of maintaining their momentum heading into critical games. “Of course, very proud sa ginawa ng players namin. We just want to carry on our momentum going into the playoffs kasi as we all know, yung isang game last weekend, na-cancel,” he remarked, acknowledging the challenges ahead.

Looking Ahead

UST’s next challenge will be against Ateneo on November 15 at the SMART Araneta Coliseum. A win would enable the Tigresses to secure the coveted twice-to-beat advantage.

UE Struggles Continue

For UE, this game extended their losing streak to 22 games, dating back to the first round of the previous season. Syril Oñate and Rachel Lacayanga led the scoring for the Lady Warriors, with 20 and 18 points, respectively.
